Understanding three brain systems in yourself and others
7:00-9:00 PM • Riverside Centre, The Staithe, Bungay
Meet Steve Young - family development educator
Discover the YoungFamilyLife approach
An introduction to understanding brains as three systems rather than one brain with regions - yours and theirs, whoever "they" are in your life.
This three-brain model is a helpful simplification. Real brains are far more complex than this framework suggests.
This workshop introduces YoungFamilyLife's approach whilst giving you practical knowledge about how brains work in all relationships.
(Brain Stem)
Controls basic functions like breathing and fight-or-flight responses. Focused on immediate survival.
In relationships: Drives protective reactions and instant responses.
(Limbic System)
Processes emotions, memory, and attachment. Creates foundations for connection and trust.
In relationships: Forms bonds and emotional patterns with others.
(Cortex)
Logical thinking, planning, and conscious decision-making. Can override automatic responses.
In relationships: Enables understanding, perspective-taking, and choice.
Understanding these systems helps you recognise when you or others are operating from different "brains." Whether it's your child's tantrum, your partner's withdrawal, your colleague's defensiveness, or your own reactions - knowing which brain is driving behaviour changes everything.
This workshop introduces Steve Young and YoungFamilyLife's approach to human development education.
Research-backed knowledge that informs rather than instructs.
20+ years supporting people through challenges and transitions.
Building on what you already do well in your relationships.
Come and see what professional development education might offer you.
Come and enjoy an engaging evening exploring how brains really work in everyday life. This isn't a lecture - it's an interactive session where science meets practical understanding.
You'll leave with insights you can use immediately, whether you're navigating toddler meltdowns, teenage mood swings, workplace dynamics, or your own responses to stress.
Two hours of accessible neuroscience, practical insights, and the chance to meet others interested in understanding human behaviour better. Plus, discover what YoungFamilyLife offers for ongoing development.
Perfect preparation for those considering the Foundation Years course, but valuable for anyone curious about why we do what we do.
